Charlottesville, Virginia, April 21, 2011 – – Casa Vinicola Zonin won two prestigious awards at Vinitaly 2011, one of the most important wine and spirits exhibitions worldwide.

Zonin Prosecco, the company’s signature wine, was awarded the “Gran Medaglia D’Oro” (Grand Golden Medal), which represents a major acknowledgment both in Italy and internationally.

At the same event, Gianni Zonin, President of Casa Vinicola Zonin, has been awarded the “AmCham Wine Excellence Award 2011” from the American Chamber of Commerce in Italy – one of the most valuable prizes designed to honor the producers who have led Italian wines to success in the United States.

“Our award goes to Gianni Zonin, an outstanding Italian entrepreneur, in recognition not only of his key role in the wine market, but also as a leading figure of Italy’s culture and tradition”, said Simone Crolla, CEO of the American Chamber of Commerce in Italy.

Zonin’s bonds with the US date back to 1976, when the family bought Barboursville plantation in Virginia. In Crolla’s words, “today Barboursville is synonym of pure Italian style and wine excellence in the United States”.

Vinitaly is the event that more than any other has traced the evolution of the national and international wine system, helping to make wine one of the most captivating and dynamic realities in the primary sector.

Casa Vinicola Zonin, Italy’s largest privately held wine company, is one of the most popular imported brands in the United States. The company owns 11 wine estates and is present in 109 countries all over the world.
