Casa Vinicola Zonin USA Wins Platinum and Two Gold Medals at the San Diego International Wine Competition!
Miami, Florida (April 10, 2013)- Casa Vinicola Zonin USA, Inc., Italy’s largest privately owned winery, wins three awards at the San Diego International Wine Competition in San Diego, CA, March 16-17.
Casa Vinicola Zonin’s prized (flagship wine) Zonin Prosecco was awarded the Platinum Medal. The award-winning Castello d’Albola Chianti Classico DOCG 2009 from Tuscany was not far behind with a Gold as was the Sicilian varietal Feudo Principi di Butera Insolia 2011.
- Platinum Medal- Zonin Prosecco– Attractively aromatic and fruity with hints of wisteria flowers and rennet apples- An excellent aperitif, it can also be served throughout a meal, including dessert, as long as dishes are not too strongly flavored.
- Gold Medal- Castello d’Albola Chianti Classico DOCG 2009- Cherry nose with touches of toast. Palate is elegant with delicate scents of violet; medium bodied revealing a ruby red color that leads to polished tannins and dry sweet fruit flavors. Pairs perfectly with Pasta Bolognese and other richly flavored dishes.
- Gold Medal- Feudo Principi di Butera Insolia IGT 2011– Bright golden straw yellow in color with faint greenish reflections. Rich and well balanced with delicate hints on sweet almonds. Pairs well with shrimp risotto and complement pasta dishes with vegetables or grilled chicken deliciously.
Robert Whitley, a wine writer for Creators Syndicate and Wine Review Online, organizes the San Diego International Wine Competition (SDIWC). Over 1700 wines from around the world entered, each wine was judged in it’s own category and the wines which stood out received Silver, Gold, and Platinum awards. All judges were blind folded. The Platinum award went to wines of unsurpassed quality for their category and moved on to the Sweepstakes Round. In this round, the judges had to choose the best wine within the Sparkling, White, Rose, Red, Sweet, Fortified & Spirit categories. The winner from each category went on to be tasted for the Best of Show Award.
“I am pleased that we participated in the San Diego International Wine Competition, our wines did exceptionally well. Especially since our prosecco won Platinum, Zonin has the largest single-owned vineyards in Italy!” said Pietro Morelli, Marketing Director of Casa Vinicola Zonin USA. “Zonin Prosecco is truly superior in quality, refreshing, and easy to drink. It’s an essential part of the Italian aperitivo. We are bringing our aperitivo lifestyle to the US one bottle at a time.”
